E-Tip for Parents from The Parent Institute:
Conversation starters enrich family meals
With a little imagination, mealtime can be a time for enriching conversation that develops skills like listening and speaking, thinking and sharing. To get the conversation started, try placing an interesting object in the center of the table to discuss. Or, cover old maps in self-stick plastic to make placemats and use them to plan a fantasy trip. You could also fix dishes from another culture and discuss that culture while you eat.

📚🎉 It's Read Across America Week! Our middle schoolers are diving into books, and we even have some special guests coming in to read to them! They kicked off the week with a fun Crazy Socks Day, and today, special guests dropped into classrooms to read books and chapters to our students. It's been a week full of fun, learning, and literacy!

On Tuesday, Metter Middle School had the privilege of having State Superintendent Mr. Richard Woods on campus to present our Math Team with a banner to denote that MMS is a Math Leader in Georgia. In December, Metter Middle School was recognized as a Math Leader School for High School Achievement, exceeding the criteria of 90% or more of their 8th grade students who took high school-level algebra scoring Proficient and Above on the Georgia Milestones End-of-Course (EOC) Assessment. In fact, 100% of MMS 8th grade students achieved Proficient and Above! Superintendent Woods personally delivered the banner and was given a tour of our school by our Amazing Shake contestants. Mr. Woods seemed to enjoy his visit, which concluded with a wheel spin and a trip down the slide... he is now an honorary Bengal!

MMS Soccer kicks off their season today at HOME against South Tattnall! Come cheer on these Girls (4 pm) and Boys (5:15 pm)!

E-Tip for Parents from The Parent Institute:
Create a schoolwork routine that works for your child
Some children have more trouble concentrating than others. That can make working on assignments at home challenging. Establishing a study routine will make it easier for your child to get down to work. Turn off the TV and other distractions, and encourage your child to make daily to-do lists. Together, break big tasks down into smaller chunks. Then, let your child take a five-minute break after every 20 minutes of working.
