Join the SWIRL Advocate Team- If you would like to use your platform as a member of the Candler County community to share the power of reading please complete the SWIRL Advocate Form. There are several ways to give your support.
Book Bench- Advocates can request a Book Bench be placed in their business. The bench includes a variety of books for patrons to take home and add to their own home libraries. The bench and books are provided by the SWIRL council and replaced when needed.
Book Baskets- If you do not have a space for the bench, a book basket might be a better fit. Patrons can take a book home and the baskets will be replenished by the SWIRL team as needed.
SWIRL Activity Pages- Advocates will be provided with activity pages and crayons to hand out to patrons. These handouts are informational and encourage family communication and literacy at home. New Activity pages are delivered every other month.
Contact Miranda Thigpen, mthigpen@metter.org to become a SWIRL Advocate today!
FERST Readers Candler will provide a new book every month for registered children in our community from birth until their fifth birthday. Community members can sponsor a child for one year with a donation of only $42.00.
You can donate online here: FERST Readers Donation or you can drop by a check at Metter Elementary School.
First Chapter Fridays are held every Friday in Metter Middle School's 6th Grade ELA (English) classes. We ask community members to volunteer to read the first chapter of your favorite book (or we can choose one for you) to the class and tell them a little about yourself! If you would like to read to a class, please complete the First Chapter Fridays Form.
